Mission:  It's Possible, Romans 3:19-26 – Pastor Scott

Mission Impossible was an old TV show (and newer movies) where the main characters would turn an impossible situation into a victory by the end of the show. That’s how it is with Jesus, sin and the doctrine of salvation. Romans 3:19-20 says, "Now we know that whatever the law says it speaks to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be stopped, and the whole world may be held accountable to God.  For by works of the law no human being will be justified in his sight, since through the law comes knowledge of sin."

We are all held accountable for our sins. But the law cannot and will not justify us. Uh Oh. So what can we do? Well…

God can save anyone no matter what they have done.

Eternity is a really long time. We should think about where we will spend eternity.

    There are two options:

        1) Hell - where there will be darkness, a lake of fire and gnashing of teeth.

        2) Heaven - where the streets are paved with gold and we will be with the Lord forever.

There are three truths that help us understand salvation.

Truth #1 - Salvation is available to all (Romans 3:21-22)

"But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it— the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction.”   Romans 3:21-22

By ourselves, we are all unrighteous. But for ALL who believe, there is a choice to be saved. We are all invited to make this choice. We are all invited but not everyone chooses to believe.

Truth #2 - We all need to be saved (Romans 3:23)

"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,”   Romans 3:23

No one is exempt. We all need help. We all “miss the mark."  The word for sin literally means “Miss the mark.” When archers miss the bullseye, they miss the mark. For us, God sets the standard of perfection which we cannot reach. It is impossible.   However...

Truth #3 - Jesus came to save us (Romans 3:24-26)

We are justified by the grace of God.

Romans 3:24-26 says, "...and all are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God's righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins. It was to show his righteousness at the present time, so that he might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus."

Jesus is God in human form. He came to knowingly and willingly die on the cross for you and me. And because He was the perfect sacrifice for our sins, we can all be saved.

We just need to ask Jesus into our lives and be our Savior and Lord.

Do you want to be saved? Now is your opportunity. You are invited to the greatest event ever! What will you do with your invitation?

        Will you ignore it?

Or will you accept His free gift of eternal life in Heaven?
